Over 7,500 celebrate the magazine launch at the inaugural Men’s Health and Women’s Health Malaysia Night Run

MHWH Night Run 2015

Kuala Lumpur, 21 March 2015Women’s Health Malaysia was launched at Dataran Putrajaya in front of 7,500 participants of the inaugural Men’s Health and Women’s Health Malaysia Night Run (#MHWHNightRun15). In addition to being the firsts in the country to get their hands on the launch issue of Women’s Health Malaysia, all the runners were also treated to a marathon of activities which included food trucks, games, lucky draw prizes, photo booths, music, dancers and even one high-flying drone. The night was Kuala Lumpur’s fittest festival scene.

Editor Sueann Chong commented that the arrival of Women’s Health – the world’s fastest-growing fitness and lifestyle magazine for women – in Malaysia marks a positive movement in the community. According to Chong, “The Women’s Health woman is no delicate flower. She is strong, smart, sophisticated and sassy. She is making positive changes all the time and is constantly evolving to eat better, get fitter, and feel stronger, not for anyone else but herself. Women’s Health is here to help her on that journey.” Right after Chong’s speech, a giant-sized cover of the first Women’s Health Malaysia issue featuring Malaysian personality Sharifah Sakinah was revealed on stage.

Meanwhile, the sleek cityscape of Putrajaya took on a festival-like mantle for the night as the race village buzzed with music and bright lights, set up to entertain runners and visitors with fun and exciting activities from the Night Run’s sponsors*. The 12KM and 5KM run were flagged off at 8pm and 8.25pm respectively by the editors of Men’s Health Malaysia and Women’s Health Malaysia, John Ng and Chong.

“This was a night run that not only launched a new magazine but also had revelry that ran all night,” said Graham Paling, Group CEO of Mongoose Publishing, who publishes both Women’s Health and Men’s Health in Malaysia and is also organiser of the Night Run. “We wanted one big healthy carnival that celebrates two things. One to welcome the sister brand of our very successful Men’s Health title. Also, it was important for us to encourage the nation’s commitment to running themselves fitter. Congratulations to everyone who completed the Night Run!”

There was no shortage of social-media worthy moments during the race as demonstrated by the official hashtag of the night. At the time of this release, the official event’s hashtag has amassed over 1,200 and counting. Hosted by the sporty and funky Natalie Kniese, the evening also saw great prizes from stays at The Taj Columbo, Samudra worth RM7,137 each, L’Occitane gift sets worth RM500 each, and Samsung Gear watches worth RM1,099 each as lucky draw prizes.

The Night Run ended with the prize giving ceremony for the four competitive 12KM categories: Men’s Open (18 years and above), Women’s Open (18 years and above), Men’s Veteran (40 years and above), and Women’s Veteran (40 years and above).

The event was proudly organised by Mongoose Publishing and co-organised by Twenty First Century Sports.
