The Changkat Invasion!
17 March 2010: Kuala Lumpur enjoyed its biggest ever celebration of St Patrick's Day this March with thousands taking to two enormous street events in KL and further festivities in Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Johor, Penang, Malacca and Ipoh.
First off, on Wednesday March 17, St Patrick's Day itself, Changkat Bukit Bintang came alive with every outlet on the happening street packed to the rafters with revelers, many of whom were happily taking advantage of free Guinness and toasting the day courtesy of Expatriate Lifestyle, Time out KL magazine and the famous Irish stout.
From Havana at the top of the hill down to Werner's on Changkat at the bottom with The Social, The Magnificent Fish & Chip Bar, Healy Mac's and La Vaca in between, the Irish patron saint who in legend drove the snakes of Ireland into the sea thus securing the island, was celebrated with a passion and commitment more usually seen in Dublin than KL.
There was ofcourse the Guinness! There were silly hats, Sikh drummers in kilts, and green beer! The entire street was one big festival zone. It was an extraordinary night with thousands enjoying the 'craic', a night to live long in the memory.
