Mongoose Publishing announce new Editor for biggest men’s magazine in the country

October 5, 2015 - Eugene Phua was today announced as the new Editor of Men’s Health Malaysia by Mongoose Publishing.

This appointment is his first Editorship following eight years experience in the local magazine scene, including time at KLue, FHM and FourFourTwo. Phua was previously employed at Mongoose as Managing Editor for Esquire Malaysia until earlier this year. He has also contributed feature articles to Men’s Health Malaysia as a freelancer.

Men’s Health is the most-read men’s magazine in Malaysia, with 32,000 copies printed and distributed every month, plus tens of thousands more regular visitors to www.mens-health.com.my, over 46,000 likes for the Men’s Health Facebook page and nearly 10,000 followers across Twitter and Instagram. The brand is published in Malaysia by Mongoose under licence from Rodale in the United States.

“Eugene is one of the most respected, visionary editorial talents in Malaysia,” said Mongoose Editorial Director, Lynette Ow.

“He was always our first choice to take over on Men’s Health. We have big plans for the brand in 2016, in print, online and with our flagship Night Run, and Eugene is just the right man to lead Men’s Health Malaysia at this exciting time for the brand.”

"Ever since the Missouri School of Journalism taught me that there is such a thing as ‘service journalism’, I have always dreamt of doing it. So this is very much a dream job for me,” said a proud Phua upon his appointment.

“I’m very thankful and feel blessed to be given this opportunity, and I hope to establish Men’s Health magazine as the number-one source of 100-percent-useful information for and about men in Malaysia."

Phua will take over the role on November 1st from current Men’s Health Editor John Ng, who is moving on from the company. He will be one of a handful of new faces at Mongoose after they announced Simon Burgess would be the new Editor-in-Chief of Esquire Malaysia from November and the appointment of renowned media strategist Patrick Brennan as Group Business Development Director.
